Jammu, Apr 03: The Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), in collaboration with the Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, successfully conducted a two-day workshop on “Business Simulation and Start-Up Ecosystem” for M.Com Semester II students.
The workshop was organized under the Entrepreneurship and New Ventures course in alignment with the National Education Policy, with the objective of providing practical exposure to real-world business environments and strengthening understanding of the startup ecosystem.
The workshop was organized by Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Business Modelling (CIIBM), a programme vertical of JKEDI under the overall guidance of Director, JKEDI.
The first day of the programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Hardeep Chahal, Professor and Director ICccR-HRM, Jammu University, who formally welcomed the JKEDI startup team and highlighted the importance of academia–industry collaboration in nurturing entrepreneurial talent.
She appreciated JKEDI’s continued efforts in promoting entrepreneurship and creating awareness about emerging business opportunities among students. The workshop focused on foundational aspects of entrepreneurship and business dynamics.
JKEDI experts, including Dr. Amit Sharma, Teaching Associate, JKEDI, Dr. Sameer Jan Bhat, Teaching Associate, JKEDI, Veer Pratap Singh Slathia, Communication Associate, JKEDI and Ashraf Choudhary introduced participants to the fundamentals of starting and managing a business.
Students engaged in simulation-based exercises replicating real-world business scenarios, enabling them to understand decision-making processes, risk assessment, and resource management.
During the workshop, the JKEDI team also elaborated on the Institute’s broader mission of strengthening the startup ecosystem in the region.
The key areas highlighted included creating awareness about entrepreneurial opportunities across sectors, guiding students on regulatory and institutional support mechanisms, providing information about government incentives and schemes, and offering mentorship, training, and incubation support to aspiring entrepreneurs.
On the second day, of the programme, experts from Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Business Modelling (CIIBM), a programme vertical of JKEDI including Irtif Mehraj, Incubation Manager, JKEDI, Zahid Ali Dar, Project Manager, JKEDI and Faheem Ul Din Malik, Associate Project Manager, JKEDI delivered sessions focusing on advanced aspects of startup development and ecosystem support.
The sessions covered business planning and financial management, strategic decision-making through business simulations, and case-based discussions on startup success stories and challenges.
Students actively participated in interactive group activities designed to enhance analytical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. The hands-on approach helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Prof. Jeevan Jyoti, Head of the Department of Commerce, Jammu University, appreciated the initiative and emphasized that such collaborations play a crucial role in fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among students. She noted that integrating practical exposure with academic learning equips students with the confidence and skills required to succeed in the evolving startup landscape.
